We know from Christian teaching from the beginning what happens after death, & from saints & approved mystics, some of whom have briefly seen purgatory and/or hell, a good example in modern times being the vision of hell by the three children who saw & received messages from Our Lady of Fatima in 1917 (the vision of hell, July 13, 1917).
The time before the soul leaves the body to be judged by Jesus Christ is a time when the devil redoubles his efforts to gain souls for hell. Hence giving people a false sense of peace, etc. would be consistent with his aim of doing so.

My knowledge of NDE is less than that of Spiritual Theology, & with that said, I would venture to say, similar to purported private revelations from God, the Virgin Mary, angels, etc., that some NDEs are part of God's creative & redemptive plan for us, to bring one to conversion to Christ; some are deceptive counterfeit operations of the devil; & some might just be natural dreaming, albeit with greater clarity & remembrance. I suppose some are also just made up for various reasons, including $$ making.

I’m not into organized religion. I’ve tried it many times. My gut tells me it’s all made up religion. Religion to keep the masses entertained.
Religion was our first form of entertainment. A theater to seduce the masses.

My husband beat alcoholism without the community. The community put him in a box.
He beat it home with prayer and fasting. I helped. On day six Jesus healed him. He hasn’t had a drink since.

True, but NDEs mean that the soul didn't yet irreversibly detached from the body, so it can come back for a short window of time.
